I found this on another blog I frequent, and thought it was interesting (and, let’s be honest…an easy way to write a blog entry for a day or two!)

It’s ridiculously long, so I’m going to split it up into a few days, because I don’t want to give up all my secrets at once!  (and, let’s be honest, it’s an easy way to write blog entries for a few days!)

Never Happy

I was going through the photos on my iPhone this morning, when I came across this one:

And, if I remember correctly, there was just as much bitching and moaning (mostly on Facebook) from everyone about this type of weather, as there is about the weather we are currently experiencing.

So, just a reminder…soon enough, it will be burning hot around here and you’ll all have something else to complain about.

In the meantime, enjoy the snow and the cold!

And, remember…in the winter, you can always add an extra layer.

In the summer, there’s only so much you can take off before you get arrested.

Surprises

On Wednesday morning, my team put together a clothesline of baby clothes for me.

It was a wonderful surprise.

By the time you get to baby #4, heck, by the time you get to baby #2, you don’t expect gifts or a fuss.

So, imagine my surprise and appreciation to have these adorable little clothes hanging in my classroom.

My girl students immediately began writing on the board “Happy Baby Day” and my boy students immediately began wondering what the heck was going on.

It was fun and exciting and just a really nice reminder that something big is happening soon.

I looked at those clothes all day, and when I took them down and held them in my hands, I couldn’t believe that soon, I will be holding someone small enough to fit inside of them!

It’s absolutely amazing, and I can’t wait!

It’s Snowver

Snowpocalypse.

Snowmageddon.

As of today, folks, it’s Snowver.

I can’t believe the amount of snow we’ve had and it is only January.

And, I realize that everyone is writing about the snow.

And, I realize that I live in New Jersey and we get snow in the winters.

In fact, when I was a kid, I feel like we got more snow than this.

I remember, Gail and I, playing in snow that was up to our necks.

Of course, this could just be the memories of a child, a little skewed by time.

Anyway, last night dumped a lot on us, and while I don’t relish the thought of being in school until July,  I’m happy to be home, safe and sound with my babies.

Good Things Come in Small Packages

So, I love Entenmann’s chocolate chip cookies.

The soft baked kind.

I have always loved them.

Our love is deep and true and goes back many, many years.

However, it is a forbidden love, and I don’t often indulge, because, faced with a box, it is difficult to pace myself.

So, imagine my utter delight, today, when I was at Target and in the dollar zone were these:

One dollar for a mini-box of Entenmann’s chocolate chip cookies.

Bought a box.

Just one.

Got home and cracked it open.

Oh, save me!

Not just a few cookies, but a boxful of delicious, soft-baked, chocolate chip goodness.

I thought there would maybe be 5-8 cookies inside.

There were, like, 15.

They were delicious.

Now, I need to try very hard not to go back to Target ever again.

Ever.

Every Day of My Life

We recently had to get a new cable box.

With the new box came 3 free months of HBO and Cinemax, so we’ve been catching up on movies.

This morning, we have a snow day, and while the kids are happily playing, I decided to check out a documentary called “Every F*&^ing Day of My Life.”

It was a documentary, chronicling the last days of a woman who killed her husband after 18 years of horrifying abuse.

She was sentenced to 10 years in jail.

Her oldest son has 5 years in jail.

He helped with the killing.

The father abused everyone in the family, but the mother, the worst.

The story was truly unbelievable and sickening.

The descriptions of the abuse from the boys.

The way the woman described the abuse in such a detached manner, because after 18 years, it was just what her life had become.

The neighbors knew.

Some called the cops, but the husband had threatened to kill the kids if he was ever arrested and so when the cops would arrive, the family would say everything was fine.

There was even a spot in the woods called “The Kill-Me Spot” where the husband would take the wife once or twice a week, with a machete and give her 10 seconds to convince him not to hill her right then.

I’ve been crying for an hour.

So often, we say “I don’t understand why she wouldn’t just leave.”

“Why wouldn’t she just tell the cops what was happening?”

I think those of us who say that have no idea what it would truly be like in that situation, and those statements, alone, are a way of placing blame on the woman.

I watched this morning and was just astounded at the evil that lives inside some people and the incredible resilience and strength that lives inside others.

As she was taken to jail to begin her sentence, she said she went to jail with a happy heart because she knows that her children would never be hurt again.

She wishes she could be with them, but sacrificing her presence for their safety was the best way she could protect them in the end.

I don’t really have a point to this particular post.

I was just so sickened and yet moved by this story.

A reminder to not take a good life for granted, definitely, but also a reminder of how pervasive this problem really is in our society.

We can’t turn a blind eye.

Stretch Armstrong

I’m human.

Skin and bone.

However, I’m beginning to think that, perhaps, my stomach is made out of something entirely different.

The same material that my Stretch Armstrong was made from, when I was a kid?

(Loved that toy)

And, this is a good thing.

Because some days, I’m curious how it continues to stretch, and not break.

Love everything that is going on inside it right now.

And curious exactly how much bigger it’s going to get!

Mirrors

Mirrors.

My kids love to look at themselves in the mirror.

Truth be told, if I looked like them, I’d probably be checking myself out all the time, as well.

They can spend hours in front of the full-length mirror in my room.  Just looking at themselves, this way and that.

Get two of them in front of the mirror, good times commence.

Get all three of them?

It’s a narcissistic marathon of cuteness.

Nesting

Oh yeah, I’m nesting.

Nesting like Big Bird.

Nesting like a pterodactyl.

With the whole possibility of a January baby looming, Real Man spent the weekend moving around the furniture in the bedrooms.

Used to be that everyone had their own room.

A luxury we no longer have space for.

So, Monkey Girl had the biggest room.  We took both boys and moved them into her room.

Then, we moved Monkey Girl into Monkey in the Middle’s room (which was her old room before Baby Monkey came along, and we never got around to changing the wall color from lavender, so she’s back in the girl colored room…not that I hold to boy/girl colors, but you know what I mean).

Peanut’s room, (which used to be Baby Monkey’s room) is now empty, until we get the crib back from my parents basement and until Real Man brings up the changing table.

Today, my Mom came over and switched around all the clothes in the closets and helped me organize the toys.

She was a lifesaver.

We ended up with 5 grocery bags full of trash and broken toys and two bedrooms in perfect order and another bedroom completely empty, ready to be filled with baby goodness.

Not to worry…I supervised everything from random beds.  My bed, Monkey in the Middle’s bed, Baby Monkey’s bed, Monkey Girl’s bed.  I took the whole “bedrest” to heart.  After all, they didn’t say I had to stay in MY bed.  Just A bed.

Feeling so much better about things now.

Like, now I can have the baby and not worry about anything.

Ahhhhh…
