Five Question Friday on a Saturday

1. Would you rather be on ABC’s Extreme Home MakeOver or TLC’s What not to Wear?
No brainer.  Extreme Home Makeover.  I probably NEED What Not to Wear, but I want an Extreme Home Makeover.

2. Do you have any tattoos?
Nope.  I’ve toyed with the idea many times, but I keep imagining what it will look like when I’m 80, and realize it’s just too ridiculous to imagine.

3. Do you tell your kids about things you did growing up?
That would be a huge negative.  Don’t get me wrong, for the most part, I was a good kid.  I didn’t do any of the typical things that kids can do.  I didn’t drink, never touched a drug, etc., but I was an only child, and therefore, had imagination to go around in order to keep myself busy.  For example, the kids will never hear about when I broke into the neighbor’s house while they were on vacation. I was 9.   At least not from me!

4. If the traffic signal turns yellow, do you stop or speed up?
Um, doesn’t yellow MEAN floor it?

5. What’s your preference: chocolate or chips?
A combo, really.  There are times when I crave chocolate, and there are times when I crave chips.  There are times when all I can think about is a sweet/salty mixture.  Both are terrible for me, but I think, in the long run, the chips are probably better for me, as I have very, very low blood pressure (100/60 is high for me) and so I rationalize that I need a little sodium in my life.

1. If you had $1,000 to donate to a charity, which would you choose?
Tough call.  My friend, Mark, walks in the AIDS walk every year.  So, that’s an option.  Family members have passed away from cancer, so the ACS is also an option.  My father and I suffer from diabetes, so that’s an option, as well.  St. Jude’s Children’s Research hospital does amazing work for children, so that’s an option.  I think I need a million so I can divvy it up better.

2. Snow days: Do you welcome them happily or are they a pain in your butt?
I welcome them happily.  I love to have a day to play with my babies, and their excitement is contagious.  I don’t understand, at all, people who moan and groan over snow days (unless finding child care is an issue, then I certainly understand their concern).   More time with the kids.  Never a bad thing.

3. What talent did you wish you had and why?
I wish I knew how to play a string instrument.  Particularly the cello.  So soulful.  So mournful.  Just love it.

4. Are you a news, politics or celebrity gossip junkie?
Wish I didn’t have to answer this, but I’d have to go with celebrity gossip junkie.  Always have been.

5. What is your favorite “cocktail”? (Are you a beer person, a kiddie cocktail junkie, or perhaps your more the “Cosmo” kind?! Anything flies…doesn’t hafta be alcoholic!)
Shirley Temple, baby.  My Mom’s Dad used to make me a mean Shirley Temple every time we were at their house.

Five Question Friday…On Saturday

1. Where did you meet your spouse and did you instantly know it was love?
I met him my Junior year of high school, at lunch.  I had seen him around, so I knew who he was, but we didn’t start talking until our Junior year.  See, Kim had lunch 4th period and I had gym then.  Kim had gym when I had lunch.  So, I cut gym and went to lunch with Kim, and then I’d do attendance with Kim during her gym (she had knee problems) and the gym teachers would remember seeing me, so I’d get out of the cuts.  Kim, Real Man, our friend Joe, and I all sat together.  Real Man was absolutely the cutest boy I had ever seen and was smart and funny and sweet and kind. I asked him to go to the prom with me and the rest is history.  (Okay, well, not exactly, but sorta.)  We started out as friends, but that blossomed into love.

2. What is your favorite room in your house?
The living room.  I love sitting on the couch when the sun is coming through the picture window and reading.  It’s a spacious, uncluttered room (most of the time) and it’s just relaxing.

3. Can you wiggle your ears?
Yes.  Yes, I can.

4. What is your evening ritual?
Dinner.  Clean up and make the lunches for the next day.  Read to the kids.  Put the kids to bed.  Watch some tv and hang and chat with Real Man until we fall asleep.

5. How many hours of sleep do you need to function?
As a Mom, I can get by on very little sleep.  Eventually, I need to catch up, but I can go a few days on just a few hours.  This will be evident soon as we begin doing the nighttime dance of no sleep with the baby.

Five Question Friday!!!

1. What movie could you watch over and over again and not get tired of?

There are a few.

  • The Holiday – Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Jack Black
  • Three Men and a Little Lady – Ted Danson, Nancy Travis, Tom Selleck, Steve Gutenberg
  • A Few Good Men – Tom Cruise
  • Any of the Lord of the Rings movies

I’m sure there are others, but this is all that comes to mind at the moment.

2. What’s your biggest pet peeve right now?

Right now?  It would have to be people who feel the need to make comments about how large I am at this stage of pregnancy.  And, these aren’t strangers.  These are people I work with and see every day.  “You sure you don’t have twins in there?”  “Watch out…wide load coming through!”  “You’ve achieved the waddle.”  “Are you sure you should be at work?”  “Careful…I’m sure your balance is off with all that weight in front.”  Really people?  Really?

3. If you had to describe your best friend in five words or less, what would you say?

Real Man is: brilliant, hysterical, handsome, loving and loyal

4. If you did not have to worry about money or go to school what would you do for a living?

Writer.

5. What is your one “splurge” item, that you will always buy, no matter the cost?

I’m in baby mode, right now, so the answer is Pampers diapers.  I’ve tried other brands, tried bargain brands, as well as other name brands, and the only kind my wonder-pee-rs don’t seem to leak through are Pampers.  So, forget the price…it’s what I will use, once again.

If I’m not thinking baby, then probably books.  There’s always money for books.

Five Question Friday!!!

1. What is your current favorite book, and why?
Good question.  My favorite book is usually the one I’m reading.  However, in the interests of self–promotion, I’m going to say that my favorite book is The Follow Through.  This book is currently unpublished, but is written by a fantastic author.  Perhaps you’ve heard of her…Amy Bozza?  Oh, let me direct you to her writing web page and you can read a synopsis of the book.  Her site can be found here.  She’s awesome. 🙂

2. Do you go to the dentist regularly?
I try.  I do.  I’m better about getting the kids there every six months, as opposed to getting myself there.  If I go when they go, that’s 4 appointments we need to sit through and there is no one to entertain the kids while I’m in the chair.  However, if I go separately, I need someone to watch the kids so I can go.  Feels ridiculous to get a babysitter so I can go to the dentist.  After the baby is born, I’ll go.  Promise.

3. What is your worst memory from High School?
Hmmm…I don’t know.  Junior High was way worse than high school.  So, I’ll give you the Jr. High memory of walking through the lunchroom and having a group of boys throw little pieces of bread at me because they thought I looked like a duck.  They also quacked while they threw the bread.  And now I teach at that school.  Glutton for punishment, I guess.  Fun memories when I walk through the cafeteria.  Good times.  Good times.

4. What do you hope to be remembered for in your life?
Being a good mom.  Not like a cookie-baking, home-home staying, organic, making all my kids clothes good mom, but a mom that helped her kids achieve their full potential, who made her kids feel safe and whose children always knew how very much they were loved.

5. Are you superstitious or do you have any superstitions?
Not really.  My nephews will read this (no they won’t…they are teenagers, they don’t read their aunt’s blog) and say, “Oh, contraire, Aunt Amy.  Perhaps you forget the whole Candyman debacle?”  Yes, yes…when I saw the movie Candyman, I went through a brief period of time (2, 3 years?) where I freaked out if someone said Candyman three times near a mirror.  Why tempt fate?  However, I’m over it.  Candyman.  Candyman.  Candyman.  See.  I’m so brave.

Actually doing Five Question Friday on a Friday!
Shocking!
1. How long does your Christmas tree stay up?
It’d be gone already, if it were up to me.  However, it’s not.  So, as soon as I can get everyone else on board, it’ll be outta here.

2. Do you have plans for New Year’s Eve?
Family movie night.  Family movie snacks.  Watching the kids fight sleep until midnight.  When they lose the fight, watching either “Devil” or “The Other Guys” on pay-per-view with Real Man.

3. Do you have any New Year’s resolutions?
I call them “goals.”  But, yes, I do.  I’ll share tomorrow.

4. How did you spend New Year’s Eve when you were younger?
With a babysitter, as a kid, then with friends, as a teenager.

5. What was the best way you’ve ever spent New Year’s Eve?
I think that the Family Movie Nights we’ve been having since the kids were born are the best way I’ve ever spent New Year’s Eve.  It just feels…good.

I’m not even making excuses.

I had to post the picture of Monkey Girl yesterday.

So, here’s Five Question Friday on Saturday, yet again!

1. Do you regift…and if so, do you have a regifting horror story?
I do regift, but nothing major, and only for the little things.  No horror stories.  I’m sure I’ve been regifted to over the years.  In fact, I’m positive I have been, and I survived.

2. Do you know what you are getting for Christmas this year?
Probably.  I’m a pretty safe bet when it comes to Christmas giving.  All I’ve wanted for Christmas since I learned how to read was books.  So, books are always a major portion of what I get for Christmas, and that is PERFECT!  Since the advent of the gift card, that has morphed into Barnes and Noble gift cards, which I am thrilled to see when I open them.  These make it even easier now that I have my Nook.  I just upload the gift card and download the magic!

3. Who brings the most gifts in your family, you or Santa?
Santa.  We don’t need the credit.  This holiday is about magic, wonder and miracles.  My kids are ridiculously good kids.  I want them to know that Santa knows how good they are.  Santa brings not only the big stuff, but most of the little stuff, too.  We bring the boring stuff, like socks and underwear.

4. What store do you love to by jeans from?
Any store that sells Levi’s.  I actually like to wear Levi’s men’s button up jeans.  I think they are 501’s or 551’s or something like that.  So comfortable.  Ahhhh…hoping to get back into a pair by the end of March.  We’ll see.  Right now, I have one pair of maternity jeans that I bought at Target that I wear almost every day.  I miss my Levi’s.

5. Christmas meal: Big, All Out Meal or Snacks and Apps?
Personally, I prefer snacks and apps on Christmas, but it’s not up to me.  We’re going to my father-in-laws for a delicious, enormous Christmas dinner.  And, although I could definitely survive on snacks and apps, you can be sure there won’t be a morsel of food left on my dinner plate when I get through with it.

One of these days, I’ll actually post Five Question Friday on a Friday.
Not this week, though. 🙂
1. Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
We open presents on Christmas Day.  Growing up, we used to open one present on Christmas Eve, but we don’t do that in my little (enormous) family.  We wait until Christmas morning.

2. What is your favorite Christmas cookie (or candy)?
I don’t know if it is a Christmas cookie, per se, but this time of year, I love Snickerdoodles.  Snickerdoodles and a nice, hot cup of tea.  Divine!

3. What’s the worst Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
I don’t know that I can answer this question.  Any gift I’ve ever gotten, I’ve gotten because the buyer thought of me and picked it out.  So, how can I say any of them were bad?  I could go into bad grab bag gifts, but I’ve got a time limit here, this morning.

4. Christmas song that you love?
“O Holy Night” is my favorite Christmas song, and the version that I love the most is by Billy Porter, and it can be found on the Rosie O’Donnell Christmas CD that I bought in 1999.  He gets to those high notes and the end and my breath catches and I get all teary…pregnant or not.

5. How many trees do you put up?
Just one, and yes, it’s fake.  A few years ago we decided we were done with the real trees.  We can never find one that we truly like, we both hate the needles that fall everywhere, and I have enough trouble keeping small plants alive.  A tree is something that conquers me every year.  So, we went to our local Agway, in January, and got a fake tree for about 70% off.  It’s pre-lit, and sometimes we have some problems with the lights, but overall, it is SO much easier than the real ones.  The kids still love to decorate and it’s awesome.
Well, hope you enjoyed this episode of Five Question Friday on Saturday.  Next up, the Sunday Funnies on Monday!

At one of the blogs I frequent, My Little Life, she always plays Five Question Friday.

So, today, I figured I’d play.

If you are a blogger yourself, feel free to copy the questions and answer them at your own blog!

1. Do you collect anything?
Nope.  Not a thing.  Collections make me get tics in my eye, because I imagine having to clean them.  The closest thing I have is a collection of books, but even that has been purged and weeded down to the essentials.

2. Name 3 celebrities that you find good looking.
1 & 2.  Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.  I know.  It’s overdone, but seriously, are these two even human beings?  I am consistently stunned by the fact that no matter what they are doing, they are unbelievably attractive.  Even with the mountain man beard, Brad Pitt is ridiculously good looking.
3.  In a completely different, fresh, all-natural way, I find Jennifer Garner SO pretty.  Her smile is infectious and she just exudes a radiance.

3. Do you have any scars? If so, what’s the story behind it (them?)?
The scar from 3 c-sections aside, I have an interesting scar on my knee.  When I was probably 7 or 8, I was playing at my friend, Judy’s, house.  We were playing soccer with her older brother and sister and I somehow stepped on the soccer ball and fell onto my knee and completely ripped it open.  Her brother and sister didn’t want their mom to know, because they thought she’d send me home, so instead of getting me medical attention, they got a wet washcloth and a band-aid.  It healed, but with gravel under the skin, and I’ve always had this funky scar on my knee ever since.  Absolutely ruined my career as a leg model.

4. What is a food that you like to eat, but others might think it’s gross or weird?
Potato chips and cottage cheese.  Ruffles potato chips, to be exact.  So good.  So freaking good.

5. Have you ever seen a tornado in real life?
As  matter of fact, I have.  When I was in college, I dated  guy who lived in Indiana.  I went to visit one summer and his Mom gave me the car to go pick him up from work.  As I was driving, I noticed cars pulling over to the side of the road and looking left.  I did the same and saw a huge twister making it’s way across a field, not in my direction.  It was awesome.  Really, awesome.
