So, regular readers know that I’ve been alternately coming to terms with and completely devastated by the fact that my kids are getting older and I’m not having any more babies.
Some days are better than others, and I’m not always weeping into my decaf tea over the idea.
This post by You’re My Favorite Today has helped me tremendously, because it reminds me that, while there is much to miss, there is also much to which I can look forward.
Enjoy, and if you have older kids, feel free to leave me some other reasons why older kids are better than younger kids in the comments Β here on my page!
Oh, believe me, I can’t bear to watch old home movies and hear their tiny voices either, but what can you do? SLEEP IN is what you can do…and go out to dinner…and read an entire magazine…
Thanks so much for sharing this!! YOU’re my favorite today! π

No matter how old they get, you will always see them as your babies. Now that mine is older, I am enjoying watching him make his own way into the world. It is scary and heart-wrenching at times but no different than watching them when they are little.

I’ll confess–I was never that keen on toddlers. Wasn’t too patient with the nonstop “Mommy, Mommy, Mommy” Hated the way they clamped onto my leg like one of those illegal parking boots. I LOVE being the mother of teenagers(most of the time). Yes, they slam doors and tell you that you’re ruining their life. But they’re so interesting. They have ideas. They’re finding their place in the world. And perhaps what’s most fun is seeing that all the values you tried to teach them that were greeted with the big eye roll, that you thought were going in one ear and out the other, actually stuck. One day my daughter came home from her lifeguarding job at the Morris County Country Club and reported that she told a little kid, “More and more money doesn’t make you more and more happy.” I thought I’d died and gone to heaven!

Susan, I can understand what you are saying. There are definitely days when all I want to do is read a good book while I make dinner…not be serenaded by the banging of pots and pans. I’m starting to see the benefits with Monkey Girl as she grows up. Still enjoying every second of Tiny, but love the moments of real conversations with my girl.
