Stylin’

Filed under: Uncategorized — Amy @ 6:00 am

I recently bought a stylus for my iPad.

I had a gift card from my birthday and I had been thinking about getting an app called “iFont Maker” for the iPad, and figured it would be easier to work through it with a stylus, so I decided to use part of the gift card on the stylus.

However, I have yet to purchase the app, because, in thinking about it, I’m not sure what I would use my own font for, so I’m using the stylus for other things that don’t really require a stylus.

Words with Friends.

Facebook.

Twitter.

When I use the stylus I feel like Mr. Pitt, cutting up his Snickers bar with a fork and knife.

Seinfeld, anyone?

The stylus makes me feel like a complete and utter snooty pants.

Baby Monkey, of course, finds the stylus very useful in his physics games, because he can move gears and levers around with more precision than with his thick, little fingers.

Me?

To justify the purchase, I’m even turning the pages in my Nook books with the stylus to justify my owning it.

Ridiculous.

So, let me know I’m not alone.

What purchases have you made, only to realize, once you made them, that what you bought had no redeeming value in your life whatsoever?

Leave your stories in the comments below…I look forward to reading them!

  1. I was in my late 20’s, living at the the beach in So Cal when Skechers came out with modern day sneaker-skates. I had fond memories of days gone by at the Florham Park Roller rink where I’d shredded the floor in my blue sneaker skates with red wheels and was convinced itd be like riding a bike…put Em on and go go go! I had a pair of rollerblades but had this vision of skate dancing down the strand that could only be accomplished in a pair of sneaker skates, duh. I’d also previously purchased a long board skateboard with giant knobby off road wheels thinking the same thing mind you but I digress.

Put Em on laced Em up, stood up, nearly busted my almost 30 year old ass. Promptly sold them to a 19 year old colleague who enjoyed them as I had dreamt of doing.

PS I still have that longboard….maybe on my 50th ill give it a second whirl. ;0)

    • I can totally relate to this one, Heather! I’ve bought many pieces of equipment that I’ve fancied myself rocking like a pro only to wind up re-selling or Freecycling them because I looked more like Mary Catherine Gallagher from SNL when I used them! Thanks for sharing!!!

  2. A cherry pitter- among other kitchen gadgets. I’ve used it once….and it always seems to stare me in the face. Like it’s saying to me “HA HA! You spent $20 for nothing on me!!!”

    • Didn’t even know they have cherry pitters, however, now that I do, my first thought was, “OOh, we could use one of those!” And I know, full well, we never would. 🙂

  3. I love my stylus Amy. For some reason, just using my typing skills wasn’t getting me any place fast so I thought let me give this a try. Well I am hooked and can whip out messages with 2 fingers!!! Really think more has to do with the FLAT keyboard of the iPad. That being said I still love reading books the old fashioned way by turning real pages. It is very likely I will never read a book electronically.

    • I still love reading the old fashioned way, but I find I am reading more now that I have the Nook app. I find I can “bring my book” more places now because it isn’t quite as bulky.

  4. Am laughing about your stylus debacle. Last month I bought a workout armband thingee to put my fancy, new iphone in so I can listen to music while I work out. It’s terrible! It takes 5 tries and many bad words to get the stupid phone jammed into it. It now sits at the bottom of my workout bag after I used it precisely twice. Argh! Susan
