As the Student Council co-advisor, I’m in charge of fundraising for our school.
We do fundraising in 6th and 7th grade to help raise money for those classes for the 8th grade trip and in 8th grade, we do fundraising to support a variety of 8th grade activities, as well as to provide financial aid for the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C.
I spend a great deal of time asking people for money and coming up with ways to make money for the kids.
Our annual Dinner and Sports Night is coming up at the end of the month, which is the evening where we host the teacher/student basketball and volleyball games.
In addition to a pasta dinner and the games, this year, we are auctioning off the opportunity to cut Mr. Bigas’s hair (one of our gym teachers).
And.
My hair.
Yes, I am auctioning off the chance for a middle schooler (or their parent) to take a pair of scissors to my hair.
I’ve blogged before about the fact that I think that women put a lot of self-worth in their hair.
Bad hair days can mean bad days all around.
And I am setting myself up for the mother of all bad hair days.
However, I felt like I needed to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak, and put myself on the line to help raise funds for the 8th grade.
And it will grow back.
Right?
So, I’ve been researching short do’s.
Right now, this is the leader:
I realize I will have to style it to make it look this way, but I think, in general, it’s a cute cut.
I’m not going super short.
I did that once and cried for days that I looked like a boy.
I know a lot of people who can pull that off and I am not one of them.
However, as short as the picture above…I think I can do.
I’m always open to suggestion, however. I have two weeks before the chop date, so if you come across any styles or suggestions that you think might work for me, share them here. I can use all the help I can get!
Very cute cut !! You can definitely pull it off. On the other hand, how does this work with the sports night? Always thought it was just for the sports teams.

We sell tickets during lunches. Anyone can buy a ticket to come and watch…it’s a great time. Only 8th graders can play, though. Has nothing to do with the sports teams at all!

It is a very cute cut and I am sure you could pull it off just fine but are you certain that the parent will not take give you a buzz cut?! LOL Way to go on putting your hair on the line. 🙂

LOL…no. We’ll put it in three ponytails and they can cut right above the ponytail holders. I trust them. 🙂

Some day you might consider selling chances to have the winner throw/push a cream pie in the principal’s face. When we lived in Maine it was a huge fundraiser for the kids:0). Then nomworries about hair length.

I’ll run it by Mark. He’s usually game for anything! Maybe at the Talent Show. 🙂

You are one amazingly brave woman! I assume they get just one chop and then you can high tail it to a hair dresser? Good luck and I hope you raise a lot of money!

Thanks! I’m going to put it in three ponytails, two on the sides, one in the back. (Hoping that makes for a more even cut) Then, three kids can come up with the scissors and cut right above the ponytail holder. First thing the next morning, I’m at the salon. Already have my appointment. 🙂

Any cut which requires styling to leave the house isn’t on my list of favorites. Regardless of the look.
But, for charity, you could really shave it after the bad haircut. Its breast cancer awareness month afterall. And, just think…no more static making your hair fly all over the place when you take off a stocking cap.
But, with a middle schooler cutting the hair…I think you need to worry less about the ‘do’ & more about the length. Have someone draw a line across your hair with a sharpie & say, “Do not go above this line”.
Good luck.

I don’t do style, either. I’m a wash -n- go girl, so I’m looking for something simple. The above look appeared to be a messy, which is good, because messy I can do. Unless, of course, it’s a “practiced” messy that took three hours to do. I’m hoping the ponytail holder will be the Sharpie in the hair. Rest the scissors against the ponytail holder and cut. No higher. And there will be supervision, just in case anyone gets any bright ideas. 🙂
