Sunday was our family picnic.
It is something the monkeys look forward to all year.
So does my father-in-law, if the emails he begins sending out in January are any indication.
We picnic at Lewis Morris Park, an enormous, beautiful local park.
The area we reserve has a ball field, a playground, fields, and nature paths.
Snacks, burgers, dogs, sausage and peppers, s’mores.
We have it all.
This year, the skies opened up on us five different times, but we persevered.
Finally, after the fifth rain, we called it a day, but that was around 5:30 and we had been there since 10 am.
It was a good day.
That’s awesome – I love the smiles on everyone’s face. You’ve planted the seed for us to do this too. Do you invite both sides of the family? Where do you draw the “line”?

It’s the family picnic for Real Man’s side of the family, but in-laws are always invited if they’d like to come. There are cousins, first, second, third, etc. It used to be huge, but as people’s kids got older and moved away, it’s shrunk a bit. However, there are still the hardcore picnickers that come, and it’s a great day. Watching all the cousins play kickball is so much fun, and it’s nice to see some of the family members that you only see at weddings and funerals at a more laid back function.

Looks like y’all had a wonderful time 🙂
I totally read this as ‘preserved’ LOL (“This year, the skies opened up on us five different times, but we persevered.”)
