Adventuring

Saturday was chilly, but not frigid, so the monkeys and I bundled up and headed out to do some adventuring.

Some might call it just a walk.

We call it “adventuring.”

Why?

Because my boys are always looking for treasures when we’re out, and when they find them, they call the walk a “Grand Adventure.”

This particular adventure yielded some interesting finds for us.

An abandoned bee hive.

A nail buried in the earth.

And the coolest find of all, (which was actually found in our yard), an abandoned deer antler.

(No worries…our hands were washed copiously after we got inside.)

Baby Monkey wants me to post this picture of his “pointy thing that came out of the trees.”

He says he knows there are hundreds of them in the neighborhood, but he thinks this one was the coolest.

Monkey Girl didn’t find anything, but came along to add to the aesthetics of the neighborhood.

It was a good adventure.

  1. Tell Baby Monkey those are Sweet Gum balls from the notoriously southern tree, the Sweet Gum and if he likes them I have about ten thousand of them every fall that he can collect in our backyard! Lol.

    • Thanks, Heather! I’ll tell him. He’ll LOVE that they are called “gum balls.” The kids loves gum more than anything! 🙂

  2. I love bringing Simon to the park and bringing a little pail along for all of the things he will inevitably gather up as we go along. It is so much fun to see what things delight the little ones, and to find time to marvel at neat things you would otherwise never find.

    • Bringing a pail to the park is a great idea! We always bring a bag on walks, but I’ve never thought of a container on trips to the park. That would be perfect, as when we get home, they are always emptying their pockets of their “finds!” 🙂 Thanks!

      • It is funny because sometimes things are so carefully placed into the pail, only to have him toss them out in favor of something else after a few paces. On our last adventure he discarded many sticks, a pretty leaf, and an acorn, because he spotted two small chunks of slate. He could have kept them all, but somehow the first finds were no longer needed once he found that slate. Toddlers are funny.
