I used to love my Saturday morning cartoons.
My kids don’t really understand the whole “Saturday morning” part.
“Why could you only watch them on Saturday mornings?”
Which, of course, leads to the whole “only 5 channels” discussion and that blows their mind.
Now, don’t get me wrong…I think there are a lot of great cartoons out there, but because there are so many channels dedicated to cartoons, there is also a lot of crap.
But then, who determines it is crap?
Because, one of my favorite cartoons was “The New Schmoo.”
In fact, I call Tiny Monkey “Schmoo” all the time.
Why?
Beats me.
Not familiar with “The New Schmoo?”
Here are the opening credits.
What were some of your favorite cartoons as a kid?
I’d love this to be an interactive post…always interested in what others enjoy!
Ok SO agree with you on sat morn cartoons! In fact I put on a best of looney toons DVD for skylar this am! My faves as a kid were bugs bunny/looney toons hour, Hong Kong Phooey, Underdog, and the one that had all the different Characters racing..Muttley & Dick Dasterdly, Etc.
I also really liked Fat Albert (wish that was still on today for it’s lessons) and believe it or not I remember actually digging “The Pink Panther” despite it’s wordlessness. Lol. Oh and to make you REALLY smile Amy….my first hamster’s (1979/80) name was SCHMOO and my second one (a girl) was SCHMOOETTE! 100% serious! :0)

Heather…LOL! That is TOO funny! 🙂 So, I’m not alone in the Schmoo love. 🙂 I loved all of the Hanna Barbara cartoons, also. Hong Kong Phooey, etc, like you. We have the cable channel Boomerang which shows most of those. I think my kids usually skip past it. I think I might make it mandatory viewing. 🙂

The Jetsons – loved how ‘futuristic’ it all was – especially when Jane grabbed the face & put it on to answer the phone, when she had just gotten out of bed.
Fat Albert – loved the way it ended the Saturday morning line-up before Bandstand came on.
The Smurfs (only for when I was feeling a little corny).
And, all of the School House Rocks – (I was always partial to “I’m just a Bill. I’m only a Bill. Sitting here on Capitol Hill.”)
