Jersey Girls

I had the opportunity, recently, to have lunch with three of the other writers in “I Just Want to Pee Alone.”

We are the Jersey contingent to the book.

I’ll admit, I was feeling more than a little nervous.

These women are pros.

They pull in numbers of readers on a daily basis that I don’t even dream of matching in a year.

They have Facebook followers out the wazoo and their reach is far and wide.

I’m…

Well, I’m just me.

So, throughout this whole book experience, I’ve been feeling a bit…

…inadequate isn’t the word I want, but it’s the only one that’s coming to mind.

We met at a New Jersey diner and got to talking.

Okay, they got to talking and I just listened.

(Yes, I realize that those of you know who know me well are shocked to hear that I was quiet. Β It happened.)

These women were a wealth of knowledge and they were funny and real and normal.

I liked them and they seemed like people I’d like to know even if we hadn’t written a best-selling book together.

(You didn’t think I was going to not plug the book today, did you?)

So, I’ve expanded my world a bit and you get to benefit.

How, you ask?

Oh, because while we were lunching, we signed some books.

For you.

If you’d like to win a copy of “I Just Want to Pee Alone”, complete with the signatures of the four New Jersey contributors, simply leave me a comment below, telling me about a great thing that has happened to you in the past week.

I think we can all use a pick me up, these days, so positive comments get you an entry.

And…of course…you get an extra entry for sharing a link to this post on Facebook or Twitter.

Contest ends Tuesday night at 8 pm!

Once you’ve entered, please go check out the blogs of my amazing New Jersey co-authors. Β They rock.

Remember…if you’ve already read the book, or are planning to, please head over to Amazon and leave some feedback!

  1. I am always nervous when I meet other “real” writers. I find myself backpedaling and sputtering, “Well, just a blogger, and I’m not published, and…” to let them know I don’t consider myself in their same category. But you, Amy, ARE a real, published and BEST-SELLING author now! So you AND they were in good company! Glad you enjoyed the experience. That is really such a cool thing to be able to share.

I would love a signed copy of the book, so I’m sharing my positives. I have two. First is that I am coming off of a Cub Scout overnight at the Liberty Science Center filled with 1800 rowdy, loud, up-too-late Cub Scouts and parents. While I’m still tired 2 days later, I will be treasuring the memories of seeing my two boys running from exhibit to exhibit with smiles on their faces, laughing and having fun, all while LEARNING and getting excited about science. It was just one of my favorite parenting experiences in recent memory and so worth the aching back and sandpaper eyelids the morning after.

My second positive is that one of the parents in our town approached me last week and said to me, “I just have to tell you — I love your blog. You write exactly what I’m feeling, but can’t find the words to say.” It was such a great pick-me-up, that I’m still riding the positive a week later.

    Congrats again, Amy!

  2. Yo! You get that right outta your mind that self defeating voice! Your piece was right there with the rest and even surpassed many of them in humor, keeping it real and style! I’m so proud of you and glad you got to meet some of your co authors. So, even though I read the book from ITunes I’m entering cuz a) I love a good paper copy of a book and b) it’s a book worth re-reading!!

My share is that I had the opportunity to take the kid to see the elementary school that we got a transfer approved to for her as a K next year. She loved it!! But what made me feel especially good was that my mom, the teacher, said she loved it and that it was a great choice and worth all the hard work to get an assignment there! :0)

  3. How exciting to meet some of the other authors but I think you are mistaken in feeling inadequate in their presence. You are right up there with them girl! That is why you are now a published author of a best-seller!! I am so excited for you Amy and what an amazing giveaway! Let’s see, something positive in the last week….so many things are positive each and every day. The little things such as when my kitty brushes her head against my leg which is her way of telling me she loves me or when a neighbor offers to plow our driveway because he knows our plow truck is down right now. How about my well pump is still working despite the snow load and freezing temperatures that we have been experiencing? I live in the middle of nowhere. Not in the middle of a big city where so much happens so all the little positives each day add up to my big positives for the week. I hope my little positives qualify but if they don’t, I understand! LOL Have a wonderful week Amy and try to get some ‘you’ time too!

  5. Amy,
Funny how you are so self- confident “most” of the time and yet in this new adventure that “typical” female voice still surfaces–“what if they find out I am not really all that good”. NEVER doubt that you have much to offer to so many others. Keep up the effort to stay strong and believe in yourself in new circumstances–after all you have to be the role model for Monkey Girl and all in this next generation. Why is it that women continue to question their efforts despite all the steps forward we make each and every day. Congratulations on this newest adventure!!!! Am so proud of you.

  6. Oh, stop it! You rocked. And every time you opened your mouth, something intelligent and interesting came out. Meanwhile, I spit loads of syrup on the table while jabbering nonsensically.
It was great to meet you – THAT was my good news of the week. πŸ™‚

  7. Like the others, I love your blog and am enjoying the book! My positive is I started the day on Saturday to the ringing of a FaceTime call on my iPad. It was my husband who has been in Shanghai for the last two weeks. It was very nice to see him and catch up even though he’s half way around the world. Gotta love the technology!
