Names

So, there are many people who are upset that we aren’t finding out the sex of the baby.

Some are jokingly upset.

Some, it truly makes anxious.

Yet, I believe that the most upset person was this woman on one of the pregnancy forums I visit online.

A woman I don’t even know.

She was adamant that we find out because if we don’t know the sex, we can’t definitively know the name of the child.

She said that we should be calling our baby by name right now, as it grows inside me, so that when it comes out, we can immediately call it by name and it will know what is going on.

Yes.

I’m sure that when the baby comes out, being able to say “Well, hello Stanley” or “Nice to finally see you, Doris” will make the baby forget that it has just been surgically removed from it’s warm happy place, held upside down, given a little smack under bright lights, and then been poked and prodded within an inch of it’s life.

Yep.

Hearing the name will help the baby say, “Oh…thank God!  This was all a little disconcerting, but now that you’ve called me by name, it suddenly all makes sense!”

We’ll pick a name for either sex.

Eventually.

We’ll find out the sex when the baby arrives.

Lady, go get upset about someone else’s choices.

‘Cuz we’re doing fine.

  1. Just passing through, but this made me LOL. Ah the internet. Where crazy lives.

We found out the gender, so we’d know whether we had to fight about the name. (We had a girl’s name picked, but a boy’s name was contentious.) At of the moment of his birth “acorn” still didn’t have a name. We figured we’d settle on one of our three final choices after we’d had a good look at him. I think we named him a day or so later. Didn’t seem to do him any harm.

  2. Shoot…it doesn’t matter whether or not you name him/her now or later…I had my now-teen son’s named picked out way before he was born. I knew he was going to be a boy when I was about 5 months along, so hubby and I talked to him by his name. Well, upon arriving at the hospital and having to have an emergency c-section, I informed all of the nurses that the baby’s name, if he really was a boy, was Alex. Little did I know that this info did not get written down ANYWHERE! On the 2nd day of my hospital stay, this snotty nurse marched into my room and informed me that I needed to name my baby boy NOW! I said to her, “excuse me…what ARE you talking about? I told your nursing staff when I arrived what his name was to be.”

All she said was, “oh,” wrote down the name and left…rather quickly, I might add! LOL
